From The Critics

Reviewer: Michael E. Gewerth, RDH(University of Chicago Medical Center)
Description: The book provides new and updated material related to the profession of dental hygiene, both for students and the instructors. One of the new features of this edition is the theme of ethics in each chapter.
Purpose: The purpose is to continue the high standards of education in the dental hygiene field and to be useful as a reference for students, practicing dental hygienists, and retired RDH's who intend to return to practice. The objectives are met.
Audience: The book is written for dental hygiene professionals, both those currently practicing and those contemplating returning to private practice, and students. Having authored eight previous editions, the editor and contributors certainly are credible.
Features: Step-by-step instructions cover all aspects of dental hygiene from radiologic diagnosis and technique to treating patients with special needs and medical/dental areas of concern such as infectious diseases, allergic reactions, blood disorders, medications, and patients with specific diseases. The graphics and explanations are excellent tools for both learning and teaching. The book may be improved by the addition of a CD-ROM and dental repair techniques.
Assessment: These educators and dental professionals have done an excellent job taking this information to a higher level and simplifying complex instructions. This edition is an enhancement of the earlier versions.
